Happy ending for the Forest pups
The start of a new month just seemed a good time to pick up the blog which has been put to one side sine the beginning of 2018. You know what it's like you keep putting off a job and before you know it the time had flown and now we are into the summer, in more ways than one.
This prolonged warm/hot spell is not going down well in this house, I know people moan when its cold, when it snows and when it rains for days, well when you have half a dozen dogs you moan when its too hot, believe me its been too hot, for too long now!
Evening walks have been knocked on the head and the morning walks are as early as possible, we have a couple that really struggle in the heat, including humans and I seem to attract all the midges in Southport which adds to the problem.
In the episode i briefly mentioned Bear joining the pack, he was the second of the three forest pups that we wanted to rescue from Romania. Harry was the first we helped and he went off to live in Oldham, we later heard about Bear needing help after failing to settle in his news surroundings down South.
Bear was a lovely dog who just needed educating on life in general, he was a bit thick to be honest but coped tremendously well with life's complexities and after about 3 months had reached his peak.
At about the same time we were contacted about Bear's other brother Jimmy, if your confused he was the 3rd forest pup. He was in a similar situation to Bear and after seeing what progress he had made they asked if we could take Jimmy next. The wonders of social media eh! Obviously we were keen as this was our mission in the first place to help all three. This wasn't quite the plan originally but if thats how fate wanted to play it then we were just happy to go along with it.
As Jimmy was described to us as an emergency case it was decided to move Bear to Barneys Rescue at Rochdale to continue his 'therapy' to make room for his brother. Happily the dates overlapped so the pair of them got reunite for a short while, not that I am convinced they actually knew they were born next to each other in a Romanian forest not that long ago.
The picture shows Jimmy on the left and Bear on the right.
Jimmy arrived and immediately it was plain to see that there was nothing wrong with him, it was the situation he was in that was wrong. He was much more street wise than Bear was and fitted in very quickly, he was intelligent and once he worked out the routines he was up and running with the other pack members.
He was probably the first foster that Ben allowed to play with him, all of the other dogs including our own often swerve Ben when it comes to play-time, Sky was invited back in the day but she's not fit enough to play properly these days.
Fast forward a month and great news as Bear has gone off to County Durham with his new family and Jimmy was adopted by a lady who had been watching his progress on facebook and had already got another Rommie who needed a pal. Happy to report that they get on like a house on fire and have the Yorkshire Moors as their playground.
So thats the conclusion of the story as far as the three forest pups are concerned. It's been wonderful to be apart of their lives and help them along, with a lot of other people I might add. We continue to work with Barney's Animal Rescue and we are waiting as I write for the next lost soul to pop into our lives.
It doesn't quite end there as we have another new inmate in the shape of Max. Long story short Max has been in the kennels where Suzy works for 3 years since coming over from Romania. He did have a brief time with a family but was returned. Suzy has been working with him for some time and Max has been coming to visit us on weekends. Just to get out of the kennels for a couple of days must have been great for him although we did wonder if he had got used to his four walls where he probably felt safest.
The visits were all part of his rehabilitation and to introduce him to the pack as he was kept alone at the kennels. We went on walks and he steadily over a four or five sleep-overs started to not want to go back to the kennels on a Monday morning. We made the decision last week to leave him here and not pack his bag. I'm not sure he knows he is staying but he looks pretty happy with life right now.
