The history of Southport dates back to 1792 when a guy called William Sutton built a hotel on the now junction of Duke Street and Lord Street.

It was named the South Port Hotel and lasted until 1854 when it was demolished to make way for a road which enabled Lord Street to flourish as a shopping mall.

Hotels and Shopping Arcades are an important part of Southport's past and present and this section will cover that side of things.
