The elusive case!

As mentioned in the previous episode my Dad came up to stay with us recently, it was his second spell in sunny Southport and the packed programme included a football match, the Air Show and a day out at the Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

First things first, on Thursday he was chauffeured up the M6 by my brother John but it wasn't until they pulled up outside the house that they realised that the luggage decided to stay in Leicester. Whoops! It wasn't long before the true horror of this oversight was slowly starting to unravel as Dad confessed that his medication was also still 120 miles away. Given the fact that he takes half a dozen pills twice a day plus some other bits and bobs this was not funny anymore.

A cup of tea later and Suzy was on the phone and we were pointed in the direction of Southport A&E for some emergency cover, one problem solved.

The next problem was sorting the luggage out and John sprung into action via his iPhone email. We were due to watch Coalville play at Marine FC in two days time, which was a bit jammy but also bought us a way out. John arranged for the Coalville Town secretary to bring it up to the game on Saturday so all Dad had to do was to sit tight for a day or two. The precious Coalville Town ties were in the case too, we had to wear those to gain access to the VIP lounge! (Free tea and sarnies).

The holiday didn't improve by the Friday, we had planned to go and watch the first ever Night Air Show but it was cancelled after high winds, pity no one told us until i had pushed the wheelchair down to the sea front! Thought it was very quiet. Note to self, check website before leaving house!

Saturday came and we made our way to Marine FC, its only about 10 miles down the road in Crosby, we met the man with the case and before you could say Jack Robinson we were both kitted out in Coalville ties. We lost 4-2 but the grub was half decent and at least Dad had a change of clothes!

On Sunday we tried the Air Show gain and this time it was a success, never been to one before so was looking forward to the photo opportunities. I wasn't disappointed and Dad seemed to love it especially when the Battle of Britain memorial was in the sky featuring his old plane the Lancaster. He served in the RAF in the early 1940's and this was the first time i had seen a Lancaster in action.

Our last day trip was to the Martin Mere Wetland Centre, always wanted a nose around there and we were running out of ideas so it was a good choice and a nice place to spend a few hours.

On dads last night he took us out the Fishermans Rest, couldn't get in here last time so was eager to see what all the fuss was about. Well its a nice place, not as big as i thought but ok and didn't pretend to be anything but a decent place to get some pub grub. A proper review will follow soon!

Dad went back Thursday and that means i'm back to the decorating and finishing off the lounge. We have the floor to do next, its all sanded and ready for some paint/oil/wax or whatever we end up with.
