Ryder Cup History

The other day i grabbed a couple of hours to get out and about with the camera. The aim was to fill in some missing blanks on my 'to do' sheet. I am still a few churches short, mainly just due to them either being the wrong side of town or would you believe they are too close to home and i never have my camera with me.
Two of the missing buildings were just around the corner but i made the effort and snapped them both of which one is our polling station.
Another tick in the box was to get round a couple of Golf courses i had yet to visit. The first was Hillside GC which is right next to Royal Birkdale and the second was Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club which actually staged the Ryder Cup back in 1933.
I wasn't aware of this until i saw the sign which is in the photo above, after more research it turns out GB won by 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 and the trophy was presented by the Prince Of Wales.
The Ryder Cup returned to the course 4 years later and this time USA won 8-4 and the captains that year were Ben Hogan and Henry Cotton. Since then many other tournaments have been held at the course and recently it has been a regular for the top Amateur events.
I have found some old photos of the Ryder Cup matches and will add them to the Southport & Ainsdale page in due course.
